Lightning set to name Guy Boucher head coach

06/09/2010 - Tampa, FL (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - The Tampa Bay Lightning have called a news conference for 11 a.m. (et) Thursday, when it's expected they will name Guy Boucher as their new head coach.

Several media outlets are reporting the news. Boucher also reportedly turned down an offer to become head coach of the Columbus Blue Jackets. They then named Scott Arniel as their new head coach.

The 38-year-old Boucher spent this past season as head coach of the Hamilton Bulldogs in the American Hockey League. He led the team to an impressive 52-17-11 record. Hamilton won the North Division in the Western Conference before losing to Texas in a seventh game of the conference finals.

The Lightning have gone through several changes in the wake of missing the playoffs for a third straight season. On April 12, the team fired head coach Rick Tocchet and general manager Brian Lawton. Steve Yzerman was named GM on May 25.

Tampa Bay's record of 34-36-12 this past season was an improvement from the 2008-09 campaign. The Lightning finished 24-40-18 in Lawton's first season running the team.
