(Sports Network) - A pair of third-place National League teams get together tonight when the host Cincinnati Reds take on the visiting Washington Nationals in the first of three weekend games at Great American Ball Park. The Reds, winners of the NL Central Division last season, have stumbled to irrelevance in 2011, falling two games under .500 and 13 games behind the front-running Milwaukee Brewers in the six-team race. The Nationals, meanwhile, are five games below .500 after losing three stra
D'Backs close road trip with Nats Thu Aug 25 11:10:09 2011 EST
(Sports Network) - The Arizona Diamondbacks probably have their sights set on getting back to the desert, but must finish business on the road tonight in the finale of a four-game series against the Washington Nationals. This 10-game road trip hasn't been so fun for the Diamondbacks and their 3-6 record on the quest is more than proof. Luckily, the subpar trek still has the club two games ahead of San Francisco in the National League West standings. Arizona made it two straight wins after a six

Daniel Hudson came within one out of the first shutout of his career, doing it not far from where he began his ascent to the majors. The 24-year-old right-hander also came within one out of a complete game in Arizona's 4-2 victory over the Washington Nationals. Hudson (13-9), who was born in Lynchburg, VA, prepped in Virginia Beach and played collegiate ball at Old Dominion University, gave up back-to-back homers on consecutive first pitches to Laynce Nix and Jonny Gomes, and was then removed in
D'Backs continue series with Nats Wed Aug 24 11:01:23 2011 EST
(Sports Network) - The Arizona Diamondbacks were able to squelch their six- game losing streak with last night's win over the Washington Nationals and look to make it two in a row Wednesday in the third test of a four-game set. Arizona rebounded from Monday's series-opening loss with last night's 2-0 victory behind Sean Burroughs' two-run homer in the seventh inning. The D'Backs still lead the National League West by two games ahead of the Giants. "I was basically looking dead red fastball, try
Burroughs' first homer since '05 lifts D-backs over Nats Tue Aug 23 22:47:57 2011 EST
Washington, DC (Sports Network) - Now, that's an unlikely hero. Sean Burroughs hit his first home run in more than six years to lift the Arizona Diamondbacks over the Washington Nationals, 2-0, in the second test of a four-game series. Burroughs' two-run blast in the seventh inning was his first since April 30, 2005. Coincidentally, that homer came against Arizona when he was as a member of the Padres. Ian Kennedy (16-4) also played a key role in snapping Arizona's six-game skid. The right-hand
